I have had a lovely day today, the sun was shining so we headed off to a car boot sale, we have not been to one for about 2 years. Well the sun brought everyone out, it was heaving. My little one wanted to buy something so we bought a kite. After the kids had some lunch and I consumed a soup and a gallon of water we headed off to the coast to catch the sea breeze. We flew the aforementioned new kite and had great fun.
I have this afternoon done some baking with the little one, we cooked the healthy recipe carrot cake I have mentioned previously and made it into little buns in cases, ideal for packed lunches next week.
I have now drunk 10 pints + of water and had all my shakes / soups and bars for the day.
My wife felt a bit hungry last night and drank some water but the urge never went away, she conceded and ate another bar on top of the one she had already consumed and two shakes. This little "extra" done the trick for her and she was still well in ketosis this morning when she checked a ketostix
I have been full of cold for 3 days and this afternoon had to give in and take some soluble paracetamol. I took soluble as I thought that a tablet might not be the best option in an empty stomach. They done the trick and perked me up a bit, just need to shake it off now! (hope the paracetamol does not affect the weight this week)
Another week over and I am looking forward to the next, not long now until my 100 days on this diet and I am still loving it! Its an amazing diet with amazing results and I don't feel hungry. I just hope I can exercise enough self control at the end to keep it off.
My wife and I would be interested in becoming counsellors for this programme and help others through their journeys, this may also help us keep on track!

Sat Week 13
Just to let you all know I have updated some of my diet blog links on the right side of the screen. I have added a few new blogs, mainly people who are just starting. I have also removed a few that have not been updated for months presumably because they have fallen off the wagon.(unless like my idol Icemoose they have finished and the blog remains as a permanent memory of their achievement) I have moved Icemoose and Hereigoagain to the top of my list both have finished their journeys and look fab!! they are both a real inspiration for what can be achieved using the Cambridge Diet
I will update my photos next weekend, which will be 4 weeks since the last update.
We went out on our bikes last night for a bit of exercise, the journey started off going down a nice hill, however that meant no choice but to go up a hill on the way back, we were out for an hour and my little one got tired and stopped peddling his tag-along bike which meant I had his weight and the weight of the bike to lug up the hill at the end of the ride!
Well the sun is out today so I am heading out to enjoy it!

Thursday Week 13 Weigh In
Just look at that little car move on my ticker, someone has fitted a turbo in it!! I have just got in from seeing my CDC and I am very pleased to report that I have shed another 6lb this week!! How good is that? I have now lost 92lb / 6 stone 8lb in just 13 weeks, this has taken me down to 19 stone exactly, I am sooo pleased.
I am now just one stone or 14lb away from my half way point and my Birthday challenge. I think I should have no problems meeting my target of being 18 stone on my Birthday which falls on the last weekend in May.
Talking of my half way point and final weight, I may make an adjustment to my target weight. I want to be 12 stone for ever and a day but set my weight loss target at 11 stone to allow for some adjustment and glycogen store fill up. The more I look into the maintenance for Cambridge I realise that people stop short of their target with sole source, then the remainder is shed whilst starting to eat / re-introducing food, which should also refill the glycogen store and hence no big weight increase, so 12 stone should be realistic as a finishing point.
My wife lost another 4lb today, which she is pleased about, she was threatening to switch to Slimming World if she only lost 2 or 3lb (she has been reading the SW magazines that show people eating and still losing reasonable amounts)
Off now for a glass of fizzy water to toast our successes

Wednesday Week 13
I am now starting to get comments from people at work saying "surely you have done enough losing now?" I explain to them that I still have a long way to go and they say that there's no way I should go down that small! Well I want to be at a HEALTHY weight as advised by the BMI chart. So onwards I go still full of determination.
There have been a couple of birthdays at work recently so today was cream cakes galore placed just feet away from my nose, fortunately they were consumed by the gannets at a double fast pace so I did not have to endure it for long! They bought me a bottle of Pelagrino water as they knew I could not join in with the cake, It was a nice touch (Thanks Ladies)
Yesterday for work I attended a fatal accident where a pedestrian had been knocked down and killed, It was not a nice sight and makes you realise just how precious life is. This young lad in his twenties crossed a dual carriageway between his university and accommodation blocks, such a terrible waste of a life. my thoughts are with his grieving family
Reflecting on the events yesterday made me even more determined to succeed in this diet and really enjoy life, I want to fit in the seats of a plane, I want to fit in the seats of a train where they have a fixed table in front of the seat and I really want to ride all those roller coasters at Alton Towers. I want to go back to Centre Parcs and not be ashamed to go in the swimming pools. I want to enjoy life 'cos you never know when your time will be up!
I met a guy today that I have not seen for about 6 - 8 weeks and he was amazed at the difference in me, he said I was looking really well. That made me feel good for the remainder of the day.
I have been out on the push bike to collect my son from my mums, I am now really enjoying this little and regular exercise, unheard of before I started to lose my weight.
At the bottom of the blog (scroll all the way down) I have added a slide show of my photos to date (I saw this on hereigoagain blog thanks for the idea Sarah!) As I add new photos and in my "current" picture at the top I will keep the slide show updated so the progress through the stages can be checked visually.
So I still feel good, Have drunk plenty of water (including my bottle of fizzy Pelagrino!) Had a nice spicy tomato soup and now plan to go and chill in the hot tub, I will be back with a post tomorrow with the update of my latest weigh in tomorrow evening.

Monday Week 13
So that was another weekend over so quickly, which now puts me onto my 13th week of the diet. 13 weeks with no food at all, just my meal replacement shakes and bars and gallons of water (at least 672 pints in the last 12 weeks!!) but I feel great! I am loving the feeling of being slimmer, I did not feel bad before dieting but just losing this amount makes me feel great rather than just good.
Over the weekend we spoke with a friend who just did not seem to be able to get her head around the fact that we are not eating at all, even after explaining the diet she said "but you still eat an evening meal right?" NO (she is blonde!)
I have not found one person yet that thinks they could do this diet, loads and loads of people want / need to lose weight but not one person I have spoken to feels they could do it. I explain that I just don't feel hungry but they are not convinced that they would not cheat. I suppose this is similar to me when people like my doctor and mother were saying I should lose some weight but I had to be ready and in the right frame of mind, then and only then was I committed to take on this diet, take the bull by the horns and see this through to the end.
My wife and I have been looking at slimming world recipes, my counsellor says we need to think about how we will eat a healthy lifestyle, once coming off the Cambridge diet and maintenance steps. Slimming world really appeals, very little measuring and if you feel hungry there are plenty of free choices to fill up on. We are both very determined to make this work and keep the weight off. I have mentioned in the past that we have now switched to a healthier menu and food choices for the kids. Well we are now going to start trying them on things like Quorn "chicken" in their homemade chicken casserole to see if they notice in preparation for red and green choices on the slimming world plan.
I know we are a long way off getting to target yet, however we want to be ready when we get there with a plan all ready to implement without causing too much disruption to what the kids are used to. I think I will be on the Cambridge Sole Source programme until the end of September, then starting to move through the stages of maintenance / food introduction. When I get some time I intend playing with excel to try and produce a spreadsheet that I can enter my weekly weight losses into and it then calculates an average loss and expected time to goal weight updated weekly based on the previous entries and changing average loss. I will keep you informed if i am successful!

Saturday Week 12
Today has been one of those days where it feels like the whole day has been wasted. My little one had a birthday party to go to this afternoon, we therefore could not go anywhere for the day and after the strenuous weekend last week I decided not to do much at all. I have been bored, I feel like I need to be doing something but don't know what to do. I think a lot of it stems from boredom where I am missing the social side of eating. This no eating malarky has given me so much time I don't now know what to do with myself!
I went to a quiz night at the school last night, 15 teams answering bloody tough questions, our team only came 7th I think that the alcohol the rest of the team were drinking was partly to blame. It was funny watching others get drunk whilst remaining totally sober with my bottle of Pelagrino water. I did however have a good fun night, 4 hours this quiz lasted, in a school, sat on those infant height chairs! I couldn't wait to get up and get some life back in my bum!
I have had all my "meals" for the day including chocolate ice cream!! yes you read correctly, I froze a chocolate Tetra then peeled off the carton to reveal a brick of ice, this went in the microwave for 40 seconds and it then resembled something like ice cream (does need a little imagination!) anyway it was ok. Water wise I have now drunk 9 pints so no problems there. I still feel good, I could have eaten a nice juicy 1/4lb burger tonight as I cooked it for the kids but there is no way I am going to jeopardise my loss!

Thursday Week 12 Weigh Day
Another 4lb lost this week, I did not expect anything more than this after last weeks mammoth loss.
So to recap I have now lost 6stone 2lb (86lb or 39.1kg) in just 12 weeks, its bloody amazing!! I am shrinking at one hell of a rate and loving every minute. I do however still weigh 19 stone 6lb (272lb or 123.6kg) and am still very overweight.
I have tonight sorted out some more of my clothes, the 3XL T shirts have been condemned to a black sack never to make another appearance, I am now wearing XXL, yippee I can buy that size anywhere!! I am so pleased even though I don't actually need to buy anything its the thought of I could if I wanted to!
I am still on track for my Birthday challenge to be at 18 stone by the end of May. To achieve this I need to lose another 20lb between now and the last weekend in May that equates to an average of 4lb each week for the next 5 weeks! (this will also mark my half way point of this diet)
I went to see my doctor today and she did not moan at me! I was ready for the "you're losing it too quickly, eat healthily and lose 1lb a week for the next eternity" but I got none of that but did get congratulated by her! my blood pressure has come down (140/80) but she wishes to keep me on the tablets for the time being so that I don't stop and suddenly see a sharp increase as she is aware that I still have a way to go on my journey to slimdon and wants me to lose another 10 off those blood pressure readings. She is wants to see me again in 8 weeks so she is obviously happy enough with me.
Quote of the day: I'm glad I did it, partly because it was worth it, but mostly because I shall never have to do it again

Wednesday week 12
The comments about my size / weight loss keep pouring in now, I had someone phone me up at work who had heard from someone else about my achievement so far, so the word is spreading!
I have started to get people calling me skinny Al, skinny! far from it, at 19 odd stone I just look very different from the former me if I were to pull out my jelly belly and show them all they would be horrified.
I have not done any exercise recently apart from a 10 min bike ride last Sunday that's it! well I have been busy!
I have drunk 7 pints of water so far today (now 6.20pm) so another pint or so to go. As I sit here I am drinking a spicy tomato soup or should I say extra spicy lots of extra crushed chillies, I think that my taste buds are becoming accustomed to the extra spice and I need more and more of them.
You may notice my posts becoming a little less frequent for a couple of reasons, the sun is out and I love to be outside in the garden (not gardening just out in the fresh air!) and secondly I don't always have a lot to say, the weight is falling off me, I feel the same each day, I eat the same thing each day. If I miss a night I will do my utmost to post the following night so please keep checking my blog. Don't forget I will always try to post on Thursday night as this is my weigh day and I cant wait to move my car along and let everyone know how I am doing.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions or if anyone else wants my sugar free carrot cake recipe etc etc

Monday Week 12
Today marks the start of my 12th week on this diet. I have to go back to see my doctor this week and I am sure she will be amazed at the difference she can see. No doubt she will moan that I am losing the weight too quickly!
I have moved down a size in shirts and trousers now in 44" trousers and 18" shirt, those trousers are a whole foot yes 12" smaller than my start size. I am very very pleased with that
Back at work I have received several more comments about my disappearing figure, some people who have been on holiday for the Easter break could not believe the difference in me this morning.. Its amazing the difference a week makes on this diet!

Sunday Week 11
So another weekend draws to a close as does week 11 of this diet.
I am knackered as I sit here, today my wife and i have spent from 0830 - 1730 cleaning the gutters, fascias /soffits conservatory and patio (only stopping for a quick pint of water and a slurp of tetra choc, just 10 Min's). This job was long overdue, the gutters full of last autumns leaves, the patio and conservatory as green as a swamp.
Well its all done for another year now and looks sparkly clean. I don't think I done this job last year which made things worse, would the ladder cope with 25.5 stone on it? Today was different I was almost running up and down the ladder full of energy. I hope that this feeling of energy stays once I have finished dieting.
Once all jobs were completed I took 15 Min's out and sat on the swing seat in the sun
We have taken advantage of the lovely weather both days this weekend, I done a job for my in-laws yesterday so no relaxing for me this weekend, back to work tomorrow for a rest! (I think I will be aching, my shoulders hurt already!)
The kids had a barbecue yesterday which smelt divine, I could have eaten the steak and chicken no problem. I did resist and stuck to having a tomato soup and cranberry bar (not as nice as the old ones!) along with 2 pints of chilled water and any thoughts of eating the food soon disappeared. 8lb weight loss last week was such a motivator there is no way I am going to fall off this wagon!
I have managed to drink plenty of water this weekend about 5 litres or 10 pints each day
Off now to read the Sunday paper

Thursday week 11 weigh in
Wow, a weekend avoiding the temptation of Lindt chocolate was well worth it. I have just returned from my counsellors with a big cheesy grin on my face........ I have lost another 8lb this week, Its amazing 11 weeks into this diet to still lose 8lb in a week.
This takes me down now to 19 stone 10lb (276lb or 125.5kg). This is a mini milestone for me since anything below 20 stone brings me down a category in the obesity chart, I am now in the obese category rather than morbidly obese, which makes me feel extra good about myself. My wife also had a great week losing 5lb, taking her total to just under 4 stone lost
The great loss this week helps with my Birthday challenge, my challenge to be half way through my loss achieving a weight of 18 stone by the last weekend in May. To achieve this goal I now need to lose 24lb in the next 6 weeks. This now equates to an average of 4lb each week between now and the end of May.
I have returned from my counsellor fully stocked with my goodies for the following weeks "meals" including a supply of the all new cranberry bars which now have a different texture, the previous bars were my favourite and I hope these live up to my expectations! apparently people found the old ones too hard and broke crowns on their teeth etc. I thought they were delicious!!
Quote of the day: The odds of hitting your target go up dramatically when you aim at it.

Wednesday week 11
Well its Wednesday already, where has the week gone, I'll be off for my weigh in again tomorrow!
So my wife and I survived the chocolate fuelled weekend without touching a bit, those Lindt bunnies do smell very nice though! hehe
I have returned to work today to more comments of "blimey you've lost so much weight" and "wow you are doing so well" and the lady who saw us on our bikes says she thought fitties not fatties!! Still people cannot believe my willpower in not eating anything, others just can't believe its possible to not eat.
I would like to thank Mike (Icemoose) for his motivational comment, and no I wont be falling off the wagon, I am lovin' it I feel thinner and great with it!!
I bought myself a new fleece jacket at the weekend its just XL its a tiny bit tight but I needed something intermediate and at £5 from a market for a lined fleece I felt I could not go far wrong. Its a great feeling being able to buy normal clothes not just having to shop from a catalogue of "if its in my size I will have to buy it" with no other choice!
I also received an email yesterday from a guy called Neil, who keeps up with my blog and described me as an inspiration to him, Thankyou, This makes me feel great, me an inspiration to others?? wow, I am pleased that others are finding my journey inspiring, I suppose I have great admiration for Mike (icemoose) and Sarah (herigoagain) in their achievements and I am just the next generation of success stories to be hatching.
Quote of the day:Inspiration and genius--one and the same.

Bank Holiday Monday Week 11
Today sees the start of week 11 of my mammoth weight loss journey. My wife and I have survived another weekend (the hardest times) and this was a long weekend too!
I found that keeping up on the water soon made any thoughts of food disappear. I could smell the barbecues out because we have had such lovely weather.
I have managed to keep myself fairly busy the last couple of days, which has also helped, we built a new swing seat for the garden, visited another local seaside town for a stroll, been to a market and had a gruelling bike ride.
I had to play the Easter bunny on Sunday morning, placing eggs around the garden at the crack of dawn since my little one regularly wakes up at 6am and looks out into the garden! he loved the egg hunt as I am sure kids all over the country do.
Whilst out on the bike ride I only wore a T-shirt on my top half which did not look like it was bulging at the seams and I felt proud to be out in it rather than covering up with big and baggy! I am really starting to enjoy my new image, NO GOING BACK
There is a good story in today's Sun newspaper of a lady losing loads of weight using Cambridge Diet below is a link to the article
www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2004370000-2007160237,00.html
I have a day off work tomorrow but will be returning to the office on Wednesday, it will be interesting to see if more people comment about my loss having not seen me for nearly a week?

Good Friday Week 10
Today has been a great Good Friday, I have spent time with family, the sun was shining and I feel good.
The day started with a shopping trip for the weeks groceries, I don't think that our local Tesco is closing any day over this weekend yet you would think they were closing for a week, It was packed solid, we purchased a healthy selection for the kids dinners next week and were not part of the mammoth chocolate rampage that was taking place in store. This is clearly the eve of the biggest chocolate gorging weekend of the year. We have already bought a small amount for our kids. I saw someone a few weeks ago buying an egg that stood 3 foot tall and cost £50 how much chocolate was in that!!! nothing like that for our kids
Whilst shopping I purchased some wholemeal flour to make a recipe I have for a sugar free carrot cake, I sooo wanted to taste it, I love to cook / bake but usually also love to eat my wares.
The kids absolutely adore carrot cake and I have a recipe for the best one I have ever tasted, trouble is it has stacks of sugar in it. This sugar free recipe is written by a lady called Jane Clarke who is a nutritionist for the Daily Mail & Times. It uses apple concentrate and maple syrup in place of sugar and also has wholemeal flour. It just has to be better for the kids than the original recipe. They seemed to approve, however were not so keen on the sugar free frosting on top. I have taken a lump round to my parents to get the definitive answer on what its like as none will be passing my lips, as gorgeous as it does smell!
If anyone would like either of my recipes, full calories or reduced, please email me and I will send by return.
I have to work all day and evening tomorrow so will probably not post anything for Saturday, however on Easter Sunday morning I will post some updated photos, to be taken that morning and then hurriedly posted on here, Check back and see what you think.

Thursday Week 10 Weigh In latest
Just back from seeing my counsellor and I have lost another 5lb this week!! yes I am very pleased. This takes my total weight lost to 5 stone 4lb (74lb or 33.6kg) in just 10 weeks!
I would like to say hi to the ladies we met tonight whilst visiting the counsellor, nice to meet you both and sorry I never caught your names. You have done great in your first week and I hope you find something of interest here on my blog and the associated links on the right. If you want to chat or need any support feel free to email me (thebigdiet@hotmail.co.uk) and I will do all I can to answer any questions you may have
Update on my birthday challenge, I wish to hit 18 stone by the end of May, this now equates to 2 stone 4 lb (32lb) to lose until I hit this target, 32 divided by 7 (7 weeks this weekend coming) = average of 4.6lb a week between now and then.
My wife had to visit the doctors tonight for the first time since starting the diet (just routine no problems) and the doctor was amazed at how much she had lost and how quickly, whilst reminding her she still had a long way to go and not to put it back on again!! (my wife lost 3lb this week)
Drunk plenty of water today and feel real good, might be helped by the fact the sun has been shining and its the weekend!!

Well The title says Wednesday week 10 when actually its 0720 on Thursday now, sorry I did not have time to post anything yesterday. Once I actually got time to sit down it was 9pm, and 9pm on a Wednesday means time for the Apprentice, Alan Sugars programme on BBC1 could not miss that!
I did also record a series starting last night on channel 5 some sort of fat camp for teenagers, I will let you know once I have watched it.
*** Watch out for Thursdays real post as its weigh day and I will update my ticker with this weeks achievement ****

Tuesday Week 10
I struggled to drink my quota of water this morning, I only had one pint up to lunchtime. I really noticed this, when I stood up I would go light headed. I had been out at a meeting with no refreshments provided and a car journey there and back riding as passenger in a colleagues car made me think twice about drinking the contents of the fish bowl. I have however made up for this lack of water this afternoon and evening. Soon after drinking some water and having my lunchtime tetra I felt right as rain again. I have now had 9 pints total for the day.
People keep making comments on my weight loss, some people just cannot believe how much I have lost in such a short duration, its great!!
I have had another "trying on" session tonight with some of my smaller clothes, I love to tease myself with the smaller clothes willing the time away until I can fit them, Some did fit (this was the real purpose of my try on session) so I can replace some shirts and trousers with smaller sizes. My trousers I have been wearing for just a fortnight are now quite loose, the belt has to be pulled tight to avoid an embarrassing situation. I now have a smaller pair earmarked fro washing and pressing ready for next Tuesdays return to work after Easter. I am struggling with a jacket to wear for work I have one where the zip meets with a 3" gap or another that could now fit 2 people in it! If I didn't feel so damn cold I would wear the smaller jacket open because it looks fine like that (fits everywhere else) I guess I will have to persevere with the huge jacket for a few more weeks.

Monday Week 10
I can't believe this is the start of 10 weeks on this weight loss journey, the time has flown by, it really just does not feel like that long. I guess that shows that I am happy with being on this diet. The results are speaking for themselves, I now get so many comments from people I see that its really spurring me on. Some people are only just noticing "have you lost a bit of weight??" a bit.....5 Stone!!
We have been out on the bikes tonight for a good hour, wore the little one out, gave my wife saddle sores but I was keen to continue!! A work colleague passed us whilst we were out tooting her horn as she drove by, she will probably be laughing at the fatties out for their evening ride!!
I have a colleague who only weighs six and half stone and our work cleaner only weighs seven and half stone, the pair of them were chatting to me and I quickly worked out that my total weight loss is going to be the equivalent of both of their weights combined, yes I am aiming to lose the combined weight of these two adults!! they could not believe it!
Drunk plenty of water today and had all my meals now ready to relax in the hot tub under the full moon.

Sunday Week 9
Just been reading the Sunday magazine that came with today's News of the world. There is a story in there of a lady who has lost 6 stone on the Cambridge Diet and is looking great, she went from 18.5 down to 12.5 stone
Its been a glorious day today, however we still did not make it onto the bikes! Instead we packed a healthy picnic not forgetting loads of water and 2 tetra shakes and headed off to Clacton for a nice walk along the seafront and a couple of quid in the arcade machines, the kids loved it!
The reason for the picnic was to avoid the temptation of chips, doughnuts, candy floss and McDonalds for all the family. We didn't leave home until about 11 am (only 20 Min's to Clacton for us) so we were going to end up at the seaside over lunch. The theory worked and the little one absolutely loved a picnic with no mention of the aforementioned food.
My wife and I still managed to drink plenty of water and my 9th pint was consumed whilst cooking a nice roast chicken dinner, the house still smells of it and I still fancy some!
More success today with the blender, no more accidents phew...
You will see a couple of new additions on the right side of my blog, a couple of new features provided by "blogger" U Tube videos and News reel. I basically get the option to specify different subjects for news from around the world and U tube videos (U Tube is where people upload their own often crazy home videos). I have chosen weight and diet related themes for both of these features (the videos are randomly updated every time you load the page, and the news is current for that day)
I would like to thank Sarah (hereIgoagain blog- see link on right) for your comment, yes both my wife and I are very pleased with our weight loss to date. You have done fantastically yourself and we both love to keep up with your blog. your latest photo looks stunning!
